A polymath is a person who knows a lot about a lot of subjects. ... When a person's knowledge covers many different areas, he or she is a polymath. The Greek word for it is polymathes, "having learned much," with poly meaning "much," and manthanein meaning "learn."
Catherine is an artist & maker working with a variety of different techniques including paint, print, felt & stitch. Her work explores contrasts of colour, surface and texture in a unique & distinctive way. Vibrant & tactile, her pieces present the ordinary as extraordinary. Having spent 6 months studying at The Arts & Crafts Academy in Kuopio, Finland, she is keen to draw from and represent traditional textile craft skills in her work.
Catherine is inspired by the immediate surroundings to her studio in the centre of Liverpool: industrial architecture & historic warehouses which offer a rich source of flaky paint, crumbling brickwork and archaic styling. What was built to serve practicality now presents a beautiful aesthetic and sense of time. The changeable coastline providing a dramatic backdrop.
As a full time artist, Catherine has worked on several private large scale mixed media commissions, exhibits in galleries, attends art fairs and runs a variety of workshops.
Catherine gained a First Class Honours degree from Huddersfield University, June 2004
